Lacy A Porter
Join us in celebrating the beautiful life and legacy of Lacy Alberta Avery. Born on March 17, 1937, in Louisville, Mississippi, to the late J.C. and Pearlean Avery, Lacy was the third of six siblings in a close-knit and loving family. A woman of faith, Lacy confessed Christ at an early age and lived a life of love, kindness, and dedication.
In 1954, she married Arthur L. Porter, Sr., and together they built a life in Chicago, IL, raising four children: Audrey Jean, Arthur Jr., Patricia, and Darryl. Lacy found her passion in the culinary arts, serving as Head of Pastry at the Holiday Inn for over 18 years and later helping grow the Orange Room in the Wild “100’s,” earning admiration for her sweet spirit and dedication.
Known affectionately as “Red,” Lacy brought joy to everyone she met. Whether through her delicious cooking, lively card parties, or infectious love for dancing, bingo, and travel, she enriched the lives of her family, friends, and community.
On December 21, 2024, Lacy peacefully transitioned to eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. She is survived by her daughters Audrey Jean and Patricia, her brother Henry C., six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.
This tribute video honors the extraordinary life of Lacy Alberta Avery, a virtuous woman who lived with grace and touched countless hearts. Rest in peace, Lacy. You will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
